Purchase an instrument and save; maintain the caulking for fasteners and penetrations through fiberglass cored structure by monitoring the change in moisture content.  A few dollars spent on marine grade caulking can prevent costly cored fiberglass repairs worth thousands of dollars (see illustrations below).

Rent an instrument and save; check the moisture content of cored areas of the primary hull girder before you put in an offer to purchase a used wood or fiberglass pleasure craft.
